The Cumberland County HIV Task Force is a nonprofit volunteer organization which was formed in October of 1986 in response to a need to provide HIV/AIDS prevention education to the general public. The HIV Task Force functions as a clearinghouse for information and education on HIV/AIDS. As medical treatments advanced , the HIV Task Force expanded its education efforts by utilizing billboard campaigns such as National Testing Day and Red Pump Day to raise awareness to HIV testing. The HIV Task Force has been instrumental in providing information to churches, schools, universities and the community at large by sponsoring or co-sponsoring HIV/AIDS workshops, seminars, and education campaigns.
The Cumberland County HIV Task Force is the oldest organized task force in the state of North Carolina. The Task Force has evolved into a premier center of excellence in leading to stem HIV/AIDS through supporting various Billboard Campaigns such as:
The Red Pump Campaign and The National Testing Day Billboard Campaign.
The Task Force has also held an annual World AIDS Day Memorial Service and Rally.
With Co-Sponsorship with the Cumberland County Health Department, Southern Regional Area Health Education Center and Community Health Interventions.
We have Woman & Girls HIV Testing Day
National African American Testing Day Events
SR-AHEC Annual Medical Booster & HIV Conference and various other co-sponsorships with other agencies through out the community.
The Task Force has also developed an excellent Speakers Bureau that assist various agencies with getting local residents who are National Speakers on HIV/AIDS to help educate their own community. The Task Force believes that an educated community and one that has access to resources can have a major impact on reducing the spread of this virus and help those infected find and stay in treatment. The Task Force impact has gone beyond the local community to be considered one of the best Task Force in the state and has had a positive influence on those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Task Force is open to all that want to participate and we meet every first Tuesday of the month at 306 Green Street, (Cumberland County Foundation Building) @12pm for the general public. We are a 501c3 and can accept donations. Please like & follow us on Facebook &Twitter.
